Newly translated into English, Jan Vantoortelboom’s His Name Is David, a Dutch-language bestseller, is a tale of forbidden love set in World War I in Flanders. Consisting of vignettes, the story opens as a young Belgian school teacher faces a firing squad for desertion.

Jan attended the Edinburgh Book Festival in August, and was nominated for the festival’s prestigious First Book Award.
